SLT

Here I come!

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Well recently I got a temp job from Office Team for two weeks, which covers all my SLT expenses! Woo God provides. And the funny thing is where I work. I'm pretty much a receptionist/secretary at an underprivileged apartment complex for low-income families. Workload is light and it's pretty laid back. So the people I meet and see are immigrants from the Soviet bloc and places like Somalia, and mostly single moms from black and Latino families. What is even cooler is that since there is not much to do, they encourage me to read. I borrowed some books (thanks Becky) and lo and behold, these books are about poverty: The Irresistible Revolution and The New Friars. What's even more cool is that the Marian Park Homes (where I work, right by St. Francis prep) are operated by Franciscan Ministries LTD, and what's funny is that the books I'm reading readily talk about St. Francis of Assisi (Assisi is another name for the homes that we overlook) and how he started the Franciscans, Friars who live with the poor!

Wow! This is something too unreal, God is so crazy when he works like this, giving me money for SLT and at the same time teaching me, ha I love it! One of my favorite stories was about 3 monkeys that owned the majority, over 70% of the bananas in the Amazon rain forest. Does it make sense that all the other monkeys have to come to these 3 to get bananas? So what do the three monkeys do with all the bananas, they buy all the coconuts. That is an analogy of wealth in today's society. And another one; for the church, with all its divisions and problems and what not, Jesus is coming back for His bride, not a harem. I loved that one.

But as always with dancing comes mourning, and with laughter comes sorrow. Eric's dad recently passed away. Please pray for his family; Eric has big shoes to fill as the man of the household and to be a good bro for his sister. His mom is also now a single mom with two kids. Pray for Sally too, she is always so happy and this is just shakes her foundation. Eric man we love you and we'll be there.

From our 2nd Corinthians bible study on Monday we learned a few things. Our suffering produces comfort for others. Our comfort produces comfort for others. Together our suffering creates comfort and hope; it provides a place where we can come together, be community and be the church.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. "

surrounded by Your glory
what will my heart feel
will I dance for you Jesus
or in awe of You be still
will I stand in Your presence
or to my knees will I fall
will I sing Hallelujah
or will I be able to speak at all

Story:

So we get to the concert like at 7 because we stopped at Wendys, haha, and get in there, jam packed. We find seats in the back, but no can do these are too far, so I just walk to the front and hang around. I see davie ling, and he hooks us up with some close seats, but they're way to the side, can't see anything. The band gets on stage, and we all go to the front, but there's this lady like no you cant no you cant. I kind of sneak in there (ionno how cuz im so tall) and stand on the side. But then, the security guy on stage points at me and tells me to get closer b/c the camera boom is too close to my head. Haha! So I end up pretty near to the stage behind some crazy Brazilians and rock the night away. Wow what a great show.

Hey guys, what's been up? Well, let's recap what's happened since. End of year two was sad, seeing seniors leave, but also the joy of seeing the fruits of God's work. A friend became a Christian, and had a great last small group dinner, and a 50% retention rate for next year! Yay! Grades, could have been better, I got one of each grade: A, A-, B+, B, B- and C. Blasted C from quantum boo. But my hard finals turned into good grades and my easy final turned into bad grade, oh well =/.

Good bye Ross. You are going to be a married man and working in Texas. You and your amazing musical talents will never be forgotten. And Liz heading off to Duke, too bad I don't have a pic with her, boo.

CFW was grand, at Timberwolf Lake it was pretty much a resort place. Mark 1 was amazingly taught by the gifted Chris Swiney who fed us spoonfuls of knowledge while we just listened. We had great chapter time and I feel the great work God will do in Allen the next year already. I cannot wait to get started =)

As I roll into summer, I feel pushed to going to SLT. Combinations of my internship getting canceled (yeah bummer) and a strong desire to go has made me confront my stubborn asian parents. I could definitely use some prayer support in that area; thanks a lot =). So if the plans I've made for myself so far (which I have learned sometimes get shattered by the bigger picture) go according to plan, this is the summer:

Now until SLT - Work temp job, play, exercise, housework/cleaning, get SLT money.
After SLT -  Go to NYC maybe and work for 3 weeks with my uncle in his small civil engineering company.

Now you ask why don't I do that for the whole summer, go to NYC. Well, during the off-times I would feel very awkward bumming around in my uncle's house. Second, my weekends will be rough, I do not have transportation and I am left with no accountability or church for support (at least in my area). Three weeks seems like a good enough time right before school starts. This was actually something my mom pushed as an excuse not to go to SLT.

Well, I have high hopes for the summer, I am expecting God to work in great and wonderful ways. I am learning to be like the birds in the air and lilies in the field, to lay beside green pastures and to see Jesus like the apostles did. Faith, purity and love. These three I must struggle with this summer.

Cheers!

Oh yea, P.S.
